Child-Led Custody Solutions: The Process

Defining Village

You explain to us who is your village. Who supports, challenges, educates, mourns, and celebrates with your family? We help you identify your village, and spend time talking with them. Their input will be used during the mediation process and in creating solutions. We help organize and facilitate getting your village in position to support your family's needs and provide a bigger picture of the issues.

Defining Boundaries

Custody trials can create additional resentful feelings. We acknowledge that and create safeguards around communication, custody exchanges, extracurricular activities etc.. to create comfort and peace in the co-parenting relationship. Our goal is to help craft a solution that allows both parents to have a healthy relationship with the child.

Granting Permissions

We deal with facts and get information straight from the source--nothing second-hand, no assumptions. Both parents complete releases that will allow us to speak with teachers, therapists, their village etc. so there's no room for miscommunication biases.

Initial Meetings

Once we have gathered information, we meet with both parents / custodians separately and the child.  We listen to your story and will help you clarify the facts and separate those facts from emotions.

Mediation Sessions

We incorporate your child's views, safety, and needs in the mediation sessions. We work with you to narrow down the issues that need intervention, and work towards a resolution.

Crafting the Plan

Together, we develop a parenting plan/ custody order that works for everyone involved. This plan will focus on practical and realistic arrangements focused on your family and your child's best interests.

Finalizing the Agreement

Once you've agreed to the terms, we help formalize the agreement to ensure it's legally binding and enforceable.
